Portulacaria Rainbow Bush
Portulacaria Rainbow Bush
Portulacaria afra f. variegata is a variety of Elephant Bush, but the leaves have a nice variety of colors. The teardrop shaped leaves have a limey green coloring in the middle of the leaf, and around the edge on either side of that stripe is a light pastel green. The stem has a pretty red tint. These grow upward quickly and the drapeyness makes them very nice in hanging planters.
Comes in a 3” terracotta pot.
CARE:
Watering:
Use the “soak and dry” method: water when the soil is dried out- about once every 10-12 days. Possibly even longer than 12 days, depending on soil wetness. To test, stick your finger or a toothpick into the soil (at least 2” deep) and if it comes out with any soil sticking, it’s not ready to be watered. If clean and dry, give it a good soak.
Light:
Full sun/bright indoor light.
Soil:
Gritty, well-draining soil like a cacti/succulent potting mix. Adding coarse sand, pumice, or perlite to the soil will further prevent overwatering.
Pet safe plant? Yes!
